Causes of Male Genital Itching
Genital itching is and can be, an extremely uncomfortable and distressing condition for a male to experience, both from a physical and emotional perspective. The reason for this is that there is a tendency for men to automatically assume the worst case scenario when they experience such symptoms; fearing that they maybe currently suffering from a sexually transmitted disease.
First and foremost, it is essential to appreciate that whilst genital itching is one potential symptom that is indicative of the presence of a sexually transmitted disease, the presence of a genital itch by itself is not likely to be reflective of a STD.
Therefore, if there is no rashes, swelling, blistering or other explicitly abnormal issues with your skin around the genital area then this means that the genital itch is more likely to be a result of a hyposensitive reaction to a cosmetic product, detergent or even a fabric.
A common fallacy that many men suffering from a genital itch will succumb to is that they assume that the itching is the result of poor hygiene and so they significantly increase both the intensity and frequency of their showering/bathing routine. In reality, this runs the very real risk of an exacerbation of the symptoms by virtue of the fact that the natural oils secreted by the body, which are used to lubricate and keep the genital area free from dryness and infection, are washed away.
This imbalance in the natural ecosystem of the penis and scrotum poses further problems for the male, as it increases discomfort and pain.
The specific part of the penis where the itchiness is most intense is significant; as it will not only indicate the underlying and root cause of the issue but furthermore, what happens to be the most appropriate form of treatment for it.
Therefore, if you are experiencing genital itching on the head of the penis and inner foreskin, and have noticed that the area is also dry, red and inflamed; there is a good possibility that this is due to the presence of balantis.
Balantis is nothing more than inflammation of the penis head and it is commonly caused as a consequence of an infection of a bacterial or fungal infection. Balantis has been dubbed the male yeast infection; primarily due to the fact that it is caused by the candidiasis fungus, which is the fungus responsible for causing vaginal thrush. Please note that whilst balantis can be passed between a female partner who is suffering from a yeast infection to a male partner, it is not medically classed as a STD.
Treatment of balantis is extremely simple: a physician will prescribe a topical anti-fungal cream that will be applied to the afflicted area for no more than two weeks. This will usually be sufficient to eliminate the symptoms entirely.
Another potential cause of genital itching is pubic lice, also known colloquially as “crabs” and these are small, barely visible to the naked eye organisms that will nestle in the pubic hair of the male. Genital itching which is caused by the presence of the public lice will be restricted solely to the pubic hair region, and the itching itself is caused as a result of a hyposensitive reaction that the sufferer will experience to the saliva of the lice as they bit and nip the skin.
