Coming to Terms with Male Infertility

Coming to terms with the issue of male infertility is something that is more easily said than accomplished; one of the biggest hurdles that many men report that they experience with regards to this issue is the fact that they feel impotent and in some way, defective.

Their inability to produce a child, whether due to genetic reasons or an injury of some sort becomes a major source of pain and anguish within them, depleting their self-esteem and poisoning the relationship that they have with their spouse.

Therefore, to casually dismiss male infertility as little more than an issue that whilst unfortunate, can be easily amended by virtue of adoption or surrogacy. Although these are indeed solutions and options available to men who struggle to conceive a child, they do not address the significantly detrimental effect that the infertility will have upon the male.

In the first instance, it is essential that if you are currently experiencing infertility, is to appreciate that although this is and indeed, can be, a very frightening and daunting experience and concept to be confronted with it is not an entirely hopeless one. The reason for this is due to the fact that infertility itself happens to be a rather loose term that encompasses a very broad range of different ideas and issues.

Therefore, at one extreme of the spectrum is the causes of male infertility that are irreversible, permanent and radical and at the opposite, the causes of male infertility that are temporary and treatable.

As such, it is important that the root cause of the infertility is identified and pinpointed more accurately; so as to ensure that the dreary cycle of stress and anxiety reduces and impairs the libido, thereby further reducing the chances of conception taking place.

Many men will feel ashamed at the idea of being infertile, feeling that they have let their spouse down and are somehow inferior to a fertile man. However, it is imperative that you actively engage and communicate with your partner, and draw upon their support at this difficult time in your life.

Please note that certain medications and health treatment plans can have a significant effect upon the fertility of male sperm; chemotherapy in particular has been identified as a treatment program that is extremely prejudicial to the mobility and production of sperm in the testicles.

This is a potentially very tricky issue to comfortably and confidentially deal with, and the reason for this is that in order to overcome the current crisis of infertility, it maybe necessary for the male to seek alternate medication to be prescribed for the treatment of their conditions.

This in turn may pose potential problems logistically and financially; either because of the more costly nature of the new medication, or due to the inconvenience that securing new and alternate medication may have. This particular issue maybe further compounded by virtue of the fact that the medication that the infertile male happens to be receiving is a rare medication that is not readily available on the free market.

If you are finding that despite your most valiant efforts that conception remains an ever-elusive concept then you may want to consider getting in touch with a male infertility support group. These are specialist groups designed to provide males experiencing the pain of infertility with an opportunity to express themselves and by extension, be healed.
