VigRX Plus Review
VigRX Plus is probably one of the longest standing and best known male enhancement pills on the market. It’s got average ingredients (with equally average quantities) and references a very misleading and inaccurate clinical study. Add to this the fact that the company behind VigRX Plus has also be found to sell tainted supplements and high price point, there are plenty of better supplements on the market.

VigRX Plus is a male virility supplement that has been on the market since 2006. So is it worth considering?
But is it any good?
Regarded as probably one of the most well-known penis enlargement pills in the industry, VigRX Plus claims to have sold more than 1.2 million boxes since it launched – at a guess this likely makes it the most popular over-the-counter penis pill ever!
The fact that VigRX Plus had has been around for so long is testament to the effectiveness of this product – in this industry, if your product doesn’t work and doesn’t produce decent results, then you’re really not going to last very long.
With more than 13 years on the market this is clearly a product that works and can produce results.
VigRX Plus claims to:
- Give you bigger, harder and longer lasting erections
- Boost your libido and sexual desire
- Give you improved control over your erections
- Make your orgasms more intense and frequent
With more than a decade helping men across the globe perform better in the bedroom, VigRX Plus has also attracted endorsements from a prominent Doctor and author (Dr Steven Lamm), and in more recent years taken the steps of putting VigRX Plus through its paces by undertaking a clinical study which further goes to highlight the effectiveness of this penis enhancement pill.
On face value this looks like a fantastic product with the potential to beat any other male enhancement pill hands down however as i’ll come onto later in my VigRX Plus review, there is a hidden truth that they don’t want you to know about the clinical study!
At a glance the ingredients look good and the backing of a doctor alongside a clinical study only further the quality and confidence consumers have in this product.
The only question I have is whether or not the results really measure up to the rather massive price point of this product.
Can a cheaper, competitor product achieve similar results for a fraction of the cost?

Pills & Packaging
As with all Leading Edge Health products, VigRX Plus benefits from good customer support, Live Chat on their website (albeit only available during specific hours) and a rather streamlined, detailed website as a result of a face lift during early 2019.
VigRX Plus is clearly their best selling product and the company behind this male enhancement pill is proactively tweaking and improving their service year on year ensuring consumers can buy with confidence.
As with any and all products in this sector, you get completely discreet packaging for the delivery of your order (no mention whatsoever to the contents), whilst on your billing statement there is simply a reference to the parent company (Leading Edge Health) or in some instances the sister company (Lem Internet) – put simply you won’t see VigRX Plus mentioned on your bank statement making this a very discreet purchase!
Moving on to the product box itself, VigRX Plus pills are presented in a predominantly white box with a distinct red logo. On the front alongside the logo there’s reference to the product being a male virility supplement, along with the bold claim of being the “World’s Leading Male Enhancement Product” (although on the back of the box it does clarify that this statement has not been evaluated by the FDA).
The front of the box also sports a quite distinct reference to the inclusion of Bioperine (an ingredients that increases absorption), a mention to the number of tablets per box (60) and also a sticky label that allows you to verify that the product that you’ve purchased is a legitimate, authentic version of VigRX Plus.
If you already have a supply of VigRX Plus make sure you visit the verification website and check to ensure your purchase is authentic.
On the reverse of the box there some blurb about its unique blend of ingredients and effectiveness, whilst you’re also find a full breakdown of all its ingredients along with the suggested and recommended daily dosage – namely 2 tablets per serving.
Opening the product box up and you get 4 blister packs, each containing 15 tablets.
The blister packs themselves have the VigRX Plus logo printed all over them, so if you did want to discard the box, you can still easily identify the pills.
Notably if you do decide to do that, remember that you won’t then be able to take advantage of the money back guarantee policy which requires the return of all boxes (opened or otherwise).
The size of the VigRX Plus pills (which are a bright distinct red in colour), measure approximately 2cm in length (or 0.7 inches).
Pretty easy to swallow the 2 tablet serving with a mouthful of water.
Each pill also sports a subtle imprint of the VigRX Plus logo which is a nice little added detail and testament to the quality and attention to detail of this product.

Thanks to the manufacturers of VigRX Plus, I’ve actually got my hands on the REAL product to test and review.
Don’t believe the fake reviews on the net that don’t have their own photos – many fake VigRX Plus reviews are based on generic product information and they’ve never seen, let alone tried the product.
Ingredients & Side Effects
As this male enhancement pill has grown in popularity we’ve seen the blend of ingredients change to include Tribulus, Damiana and Bioperine.
The current combination of ingredients within VigRX Plus really hasn’t changed in quite some years – they’ve obviously reached a point where VigRX Plus is as effective as it can be and hence no further tweaking or modification of the overall blend is needed.
The fact that VigRX Plus is now also backed by a clinical study based on its specific ingredients, suggests that we’re very unlikely to see any further tweaks or changes to the overall formulation in the future (as this would likely mean redoing the clinical study).
I think it is also worth noting that beyond the set of 10 primary ingredients (plus an absorption enhancer in the form of Bioperine), VigRX Plus also contains a couple of other ingredients that are used to form and combine the ingredients of the overall pill.
One of these ingredients is a colouring called FD&C Red #40.
This is a food dye which gives VigRX Plus its bright red appearance however it’s also worth noting that some people have an allergy or an irritation to food dyes of this type.
Needless to say if you’ve previously had an allergic reaction to food dyes in the past then, you’ll probably want to give VigRX Plus a miss or at the very least double check and ensure your safe to consume it.
Everyone is different so if you have any health concerns or you’re on prescription medications, be aware that VigRX Plus side effects can occur and you should always discontinue use and/or check with a medical professional if you start suffering from any adverse side effects.
A first generation product from the same manufacturer, VigRX, consisted of a proprietary blend of Panax ginseng, Serenoa repens, Gingko biloba, Crataegus laevigata, Ptychopetalum olacoides, Erythroxylum catuaba, Cuscuta chinensis, and Epimedium sagittatum extract.
Rho-kinase is an enzyme that plays an important role in maintaining the flaccid state of the penis and is considered as an emerging target for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
VigRX was able to inhibit Rho kinase, but at a very high concentration, thus requiring a fairly large dose to achieve desired results. Hence, three more ingredients Tribulus terrestris, Turnera diffusa, and Bioperine® (piperine) were added to the formulation.
The resulting new formulation was named VigRX Plus.
In male rats, treatment with VigRX Plus increased ejaculation frequency and serum testosterone concentration. The safety and efficacy profile of VigRX Plus has also been evaluated in humans, in a double blind, randomized placebo-controlled, parallel groups, multi-centre study. 78 men aged 25–50 years of age; suffering from mild to moderate erectile dysfunction (ED), participated in this study.
Based on the results of this trial, where international index of erectile function (IIEF) criteria such as orgasmic function, sexual desire, intercourse satisfaction, and overall satisfaction were evaluated, VigRX Plus was rated as very good to excellent in more than 50% patients; whereas placebo therapy was rated as fair to good in about 25% of patients.
VigRX Plus was safe and well- tolerated in this study. 62% of the patients reported an increase in the ability to maintain an erection and 47% reported an increase in sexual desire amongst other positive effects.
Further, provided below, is an evaluation of each herbal ingredient present in VigRX Plus and its potential role in natural sexual enhancement in men based on an independent literature search.
Interestingly, the manufacturers recommend two tablets daily on the VigRX Plus package, whereas in the clinical trial mentioned above, the study subjects were administered 2 tablets twice daily, leading to doubling of the daily dose of each ingredient that will be reviewed below.

Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) and it’s berries are widely used in supplements – for men, it can prevent hair loss, act as an anti-inflammatory and also improve urinary function.
There is suggestion that it can improve prostate health and also regulate hormones, specifically in relation to testosterone levels however it’s only via a recent study that these benefits have been officially proven.
The clinical study looked at 82 men who had BPH and symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
After 8 weeks of taking 320mg of Saw Palmetto on a daily basis, not only had prostate symptoms improved by 51% (based on the International Prostate Symptom Score) but participants saw a 40% improvement in the symptoms of erectile dysfunctions whilst also experiencing better sexual function and libido.
Notably the study was the first of it’s kind to show that this therapy has the ability to improve not just the symptoms of BPH but also, at the same time, the symptoms of sexual dysfunction.
Continuing on the theme of ingredients that strengthen the penis and also allow the ability to combat erectile dysfunction, Hawthorne (also known as Crataegus) has been used for treating cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and congestive heart failure.
That said, despite the fact that Hawthorn has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine, various clinical studies [source] of this compound seem to indicate that Hawthorn doesn’t actually have the ability to lower blood pressure and beyond this, there is no evidence to suggest that Hawthorn can effect flow mediated dilation – the widening of blood vessels which occurs when nitric oxide is released.
In the case of the VigRX Plus website where each ingredient is listed, the benefits of Hawthorn specifically focus on its high antioxidant properties, the ability to strengthen (rather than widen) blood vessels and the improved blood flow that will ultimately occur as a result of improving cholesterol levels and supporting a healthy heart.
Ginkgo Biloba is another key ingredient in VigRX Plus offering 200mg. The extract itself, can be taken from the root, bark or, in this case, the leaf of the Ginkgo Biloba tree.
It’s been used in Chinese medicine for many centuries and found its way into modern medicine thanks to its benefits of being a powerful antioxidant, its ability to fight inflammation, as well as improving brain function and reducing the symptoms of conditions such as dementia (although not conclusively proven).
In terms of men’s sexual health it can reduce anxiety and depression (great for potential bedroom nerve, performance related issues and general libido), whilst some research indicates that due to its ability to improve circulation and the health of your heart, it can help treat sexual dysfunction such as impotence.
In theory, thanks to its antioxidant properties, Ginkgo Biloba has the ability to increase nitric oxide levels in the blood which has ultimately lead to the assumption of its benefits where male arousal levels are concerned.
Although the principles of this conclusion make sense, unfortunately (as yet) clinical research has yet to show any definitive evidence to support the fact that Ginkgo Biloba does indeed aid symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
In testing Ginkgo Biloba has been shown to be no more effective than a placebo!
Containing 200mg of Damiana, this wild shrub can have its leaf (in the case of VigRX Plus), stem or flowers used to produced a powerful aphrodisiac essentially increasing sexual desire and urges leading to an increased sex drive.
Damiana can be used for the treatment of both men’s and women’s sexual health – for the former, as well as increasing libido Damiana has been shown to aid in the process of achieving and maintaining an erection.
Damiana essentially slows down our digestive system and (as studies seem to indicate), increase the flow of oxygen to the male genitals.
Despite its ability to help you overcome anxiety and stress that occur as a result of the fear of a potential inadequate sexual performance, there are also suggestions that it will increase the sensitivity of your erogenous zones (such as your penis).
This therefore means that although Damiana may may help you more easily gain and maintain an erection, you might also find you start finishing a little sooner than you used to.
There are no document side effects to worry about, other than a potential, mild laxative effect.
Another yellow flowering botanical plant (meaning a drug that is made from the extract of plants), Tribulus Terrestris has primarily been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat and alleviate sexual disorders in both men and women.
In the case of men’s sexual health, Tribulus Terrestris is viewed as a strong herbal alternative to Viagra.
By elevating the levels of free testosterone as a result of increasing the abundance of luteinsing hormones (LH), men can experience better sperm quality, harder erections, the potential resolution of impotence and even the reduction of premature ejaculation symptoms.
Not only will Tribulus Terrestris aid the production of sex hormones, it also improves Nitric Oxide levels (a feature of a number of the other ingredients within the VigRX Plus formulation) and this helps the ability for an erection to be achieved as well as allowing the muscles in the penis to relax and improve blood flow.
There is 100mg of Catuaba at a 4:1 ratio in VigRX Plus, making the inclusion of this herb extract especially potent.
If you already suffer from high blood pressure, physical or mental fatigue, or a poor memory then chances are Catuaba will provide you with some added benefits beyond the purely sexual – you might even find it helps you get to sleep!
In terms of male sexual health, Catuaba lifts your mood and stimulates your central nervous system whilst it’s main appeal from its origins in Brazil come from its effects as a powerful aphrodisiac.
Beyond the enhancement to your libido, the sexual function is thought to occur as a result of the stimulation of your nervous system – this results in improved blood flow to the penis, which in turn leads to stronger erections that last for a longer period of time.
Muira Puama is often referred to as the “Viagra of the Amazon” with both its roots and bark used as an extract. You can buy Muira Puama as a supplement on its own from various health food stores, whilst the VigRX Plus formulation contains 100mg at a 4:1 extract taken from the bark of the Muira Puama plant.
It’s alternate name of “potency wood” gives a clear indication of what effect Muira Puama is likely to have on your sexual health!
Two specific studies [source] that tested Muira Puama on men with low libidos and symptoms of impotence, saw that 60-70% of participants experienced a notably improvement in the ability to achieve and maintain an erection whilst also increasing overall sexual desire.
As well as acting as a very powerful aphrodisiac and helping to resolve symptoms of erectile dysfunction, Muira Puama is also known to be an effective remedy for other conditions such as depression, joint pain, loss of appetite and upset stomach.
Although studies are rather limited in terms of highlighting the potential side effects of Muira Puama, the only notable concern at this stage is that it could potentially be the cause of sleep related problems such as insomnia.
Cuscuta, also known as Dodder Seed is an extract taken from the seeds of the Cuscuta – a parasitic plant that latches on to other “host” plant in order to satisfy its needs for nutrition and water.
Used originally in Chinese medicine, Cuscuta offers a variety of benefits with modern research focusing primarily on its ability to stimulate the production of testosterone (albeit studies are focused around non-human research).
Despite containing only 50mg at a 4:1 extract ratio, it’s a powerful addition to VigRX Plus with it helping to improve sperms production and quality as well as increasing sexual drive and stamina.
In terms of negative side effects, taking Cuscuta does often result in constipation as a result of it decreasing the flow of fluid throughout the body.
If you start experience difficult bowel movements, then i’d definitely suggest simply increasing your fluid intake by drinking more water to initially overcome this symptom.
Last on the list of VigRX Plus ingredients is 30mg (in the form of a 4:1 extract) of Epimedium – a plant that goes by a variety of different names including Barrenwort, Yin Yang Huo and Horny Goat Weed.
We’ve seen Epimedium included in the likes of Max Performer at much higher levels, yet the rather concentrated version in VigRX Plus still provides some distinct benefits and helps to support the other ingredients in the overall blend.
Although Epimedium can be used to improve the sexual health of women, for men, Horny Goat Weed is well known as a remedy for erectile dysfunction.
It’s been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries with its leaves being used as a powerful natural aphrodisiac as well as treatment for other health problems relating to the kidneys and bones.
For men, Horny Goat Weed helps to increase testosterone production (which we know improves the ability to achieve and maintain an erection), boost blood circulation, whilst also living up to its name by improving libido.
Importantly, if you’re on any prescription medications that are designed to treat high blood pressure, thin your blood, help treat heart disease, thyroid problems, or an irregular heartbeat you should definitely check with a medical professional before taking VigRX Plus or any other supplement that contains Epimedium.
Bioperine is one of my favourite compounds, not because it specifically improves your sexual health or penile function, but because it supercharges other ingredients.
A lot of nutrients from a penis pill are discarded as they travel through the digestive system, hence why penis patches are so effective given they allow ingredients to be absorbed through the skin and reach the bloodstream in much stronger, higher concentrations.
In the case of Bioperine, absorption rates can be enhanced by up to 30% – this means any male enhancement supplement that contains Bioperine will generally work considerably faster and be vastly more effective.
Notably clinical research [source] has been undertaken to illustrate how effective Bioperine can be in regards to absorption rates, although these studies have only focused on a small handful of ingredients (notably non of which are included in VigRX Plus).
That said, it’s highly likely that Bioperine provides improved absorption for many, if not all ingredients in the VigRX Plus formulation and no doubt is a key reason why the blend of ingredients is so effect in comparison to non-Bioperine supplements.
Although only containing 200mg, the inclusion of Korean Red Ginseng root specifically where men’s sexual health is concerned has no doubt been selected for inclusion in VigRX Plus thanks to its ability to reduce the symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
Although Panax Ginseng (another commonly used name for this ingredient) has been used for centuries for this very purpose (the natural treatment of erectile dysfunction), it’s only in recent years that specific studies have been undertaken to determine its effectiveness, whilst the compound itself is still not FDA approved for the treatment of impotence.
A study from 2002 [source] found that when 45 men with clinically confirmed erectile dysfunction took part in a double blind, placebo controlled study, 60% of those that received Korean red ginseng saw improved erections with the overall study showing significant improvement of erectile function.
Notably the study was undertaken over 2 eight week periods (with a 2 week period in the middle without consumption of Ginseng), whilst the dosage was a lot higher at 900mg, taken 3 times per day.
Beyond the benefits of sexual health it can also help to boost your immune system, fight diabetes and even improve your focus and concentration.
The VigRX Plus clinical study [source] that has been undertaken on VigRX Plus is a key factor in identifying and showing the effectiveness of the overall blend of ingredients.
In this review i feel it’s well worth taking a much closer look at the clinical data collected given its rare for a product of this type to go to such lengths to legitimately and scientifically justify the results you can achieve.
The clinical data is not based on the individual specific ingredients but more the overall blend of VigRX Plus which has been undertaken specifically in relation to this product.
The entire report and study which was published in 2010 is 52 pages in length; you can read the entire detailed document on the VigRX Plus website [source] however in this section of my review I’m just going to break down the core findings and how they relate to the rather valid claims that are made about this male enhancement pill.
The study consisted of 75 men – half taking VigRX Plus, the other half taking a placebo. Ages ranged from 25-50 years old.
The objectives of the VigRX Plus study were to:
- Assess the benefit based on those with erectile dysfunction
- Determine how the capsules could benefit male sexual health
- Evaluate the safety of VigRX Plus
- Ascertain the benefits on sperm count, motility, semen volume and serum testosterone levels
The study itself was based over a 12 week consumption of VigRX Plus however interestingly the final report seems to indicate that each participant had a 2 capsule serving, not once, but twice a day which is double the amount actually given and suggested in a standard 1 month supply.
Remembering that the age range went up to 50 and that some of the participants clearly had some degree of erectile dysfunction, the VigRX Plus Clinical Study found that, in just 84 days there was a:
- 71% improvement in intercourse satisfaction
- 62% increase in the ability to maintain an erection
- 61% increase in libido
- 58% increase in the ability to penetrate a partner
- 47% improvement in overall desire and sexual drive
- 22% increase in quality and frequency of ejaculations
Based on such a detailed clinical study, there are clearly merits to taking VigRX Plus with the majority of participants who didn’t receive the placebo saying they would continue taking VigRX Plus following the study.
Based on the combination of ingredients, the clinical study and the numerous user reviews, the ability for VigRX Plus to give you bigger, harder, longer last erections and a host of other benefits is ultimately very accurate and well founded.
Money Back Guarantee
In the male enhancement industry, whether we’re talking pills, patches, pumps or extenders there is always some incentive designed to increase your confidence in the product – a window of time where you can test the product out and if it doesn’t work for you, return it for a full or partial refund (depending on the terms and conditions).
VigRX Plus and for that matter all products manufactured and sold by the parent company Leading Edge Health, attract a 67 day money back guarantee.
What this means is you can try the product for 60 days and then you have a further 7 days to return it.
The refund covers the price of the package you purchased however excludes any original shipping fees, the cost to return all empty or unopened boxes and could possibly attract handling charges (as stated in the VigRX Plus terms and conditions).
The wording on the website keeps mentioning the fact that they invite customers to try VigRX Plus for 60 days (2 containers) – this therefore seemingly means that the 30 day (1 container) supply is exempt from the money back guarantee policy.
This is hardly surprising given the fact that the clinical study was taken over a 12 week (3 month period) and although some people will no doubt see results within the first month, the build up of ingredients in your system will accumulate and produce better results in the second month of usage.
Realistically you’ll likely have to confirm that you’ve taken VigRX Plus consistently over a 60 day period before then being able to qualify for that return and refund. If you’ve taken VigRX Plus properly though, I really can’t see why you wouldn’t have started seeing results!
Importantly if you do qualify for that return and refund, you must make sure that your return arrives within that 67 day window – there are a few complaints dotted around the web where peoples returns arrived just 1 day late and as a result weren’t eligible for their refund.
VigRX Plus are very, very strict with the timescales so in the unlikely event that you do need to return your order, make sure you use tracked delivery so you have proof of the date of receipt once your return arrives.
Given an amazing array of ingredients, with greatly enhanced absorption rates, VigRX Plus is an impressive product.
With its popularity however and no doubt as a result of the cost incurred by having a Doctor endorsement, not to mention the massive investment in both time and cost to undertake a clinical study, makes the pricing of VigRX Plus a little on the expensive side.
A 1 month supply of VigRX Plus comes in at however if you use our exclusive discount code – PER10 – you’ll get a 10% discount on any package size.
With the discount applied the price drops to with a price per serving equating to .
Where to Buy VigRX Plus
If you’re considering where to buy VigRX Plus and you’ve spotted it for sale on Amazon, Ebay or some other strange website pretending to be the VigRX Plus official website – don’t!
There are a lot of fake VigRX Plus pills on the market and the ONLY place to safely purchase authentic VigRX Plus is via the official website.

Pricing (other than Original Price) is based on the 10% discount code PER10 being applied at checkout.
There’s definitely big savings to be made on the larger package sizes – order any 3 month or larger package and you’ll get free international shipping, whilst a 12 month supply (with PER10 discount applied) brings the monthly price per box down to or the equivalent of per serving.
Even buying the massive 12 month supply means the price per serving is still more expensive per serving when compared against the 6 month supply of our favoured male enhancement pill – Max Performer.
That said, despite having to commit to a 12 month supply of VigRX Plus with a slightly higher overall cost per serving, you do get a couple of bonus products including access to ErectionFitness, a bottle of Semenax, free shipping and of course the obligatory 67 day money back guarantee.
Personally I think especially on the higher packages they could offer more in terms of the bonuses given the overall price points!
Ultimately quality and recognition from the medical community (in the case of a well renowned Dr and a clinical study), along with huge popularity and more than likely a high number of customers purchasing repeat orders means that VigRX Plus is a rather expensive if proven means of enhancing your penis, virility and overall sexual health.
Put simply there is no denying this male enlargement pill works – there is no way that VigRX Plus would still exist after more than a decade if it didn’t produce results.
It’s clear that the popularity of VigRX Plus and subsequently the level of sales over this male enhancement pills lifetime (more than 1 million boxes so far), is based on its results and clinical data making it one of the most recognised and reputable penis pills on the market.
In terms of the results that I got when trying VigRX Plus out for around 2 months, I was expecting this male enhancement supplement to kick in and work perhaps quicker than it did.
There were a few subtle effects of improved libido, arousal strength and quite an improvement in energy levels however the real increase in horniness and urge to have more sex didn’t seem to kick in until around week 3.
It was around week 4 that my sex drive seemed to suddenly increase, whilst my arousal levels seemed to get better and better during the course of weeks 5-8. By the middle of month 2 my erection strength was notably harder and fuller and my sex drive was definitely enhanced.
As I highlighted from the data in the clinical study, the recommended dosage and the amount that I’ve been consuming during this test is 2 pills per day, this compares to double the dosage consumed by those on the clinical trial hence why the results i experienced during the 8 week period were likely slower in comparison to those undertaking the study.
I think if i had continued taking VigRX Plus beyond the 8 weeks, the following months would have likely seen further improvement in results as the level of ingredients in my body continued to build up and produce even better results.
VigRX Plus has average ingredients and although its clinical study is somewhat misleading (based on 6 pills per day rather than the 2 pill per day provided), it does have the potential to achieve results.
The money back guarantee is a little short at 67 days and VigRX Plus is really rather pricey, so ultimately there are higher quality, better priced and more effective alternative male enhancement supplement that you should spend your money on before considering VigRX Plus.
