No Cock and Bull Stories with Cock Rings

The usage of cock rings can be a very powerful way of improving sexual performance, or compensating for a physical deficiency in this area. However,  it is essential that cock rings are properly respected and more saliently, that the safety literature associated with them carefully observed and followed.

Using sex toys is still widely considered to be a female domain, with men oftentimes trailing behind their female counterparts in their usage (or at the very least, readiness to admit their usage). There have been varying theories proposed to account for this; including the following:

  1. A sense of stigma associated with the usage of male sex toys such as a cockring. Specifically, the fact that a mechanical aid has to be used to “support” the male partner in question is seen as demeaning within some demographs.
  2. A misunderstanding as to the efficacy and reliability of cock rings
  3. A belief that the usage of such items is solely the domain of gay men in relationships and therefore; not suitable for heterosexual men.
  4. Cock rings in particular; due to their origins and usage within the world of medicine has meant that the clinical association with such devices serves to reduce the erotic value of them.
  5. Religious and conservative values providing intense feelings of stigma, isolation, shame and guilt.

The primary function of a cock ring is to ensure that the male is able to attain, maintain and sustain their erection for a longer period of time, thereby in theory at least, providing more pleasure for both himself (in his capacity as the insertive partner)  and his receptive partner. A cock ring will help to achieve these goals by means of restricting the circulation of blood to the penile chamber; thereby ensuring that the blood will move only in one direction. Therefore, this in essence causes the blood within the penile chamber to then become effectively trapped, thereby ensuring that the erection is sustained by mechanical means.

Cock rings, by virtue of the fact that they restrict the release of blood from the penile chamber, pose potential health problems and risks to the male who relies upon them, and it should be noted that although these risks remain fairly low, the severity of them are such that careful awareness as to them must be kept in mind.

In the event that the insertive male who has placed a cock ring on their penis should experience any loss of sensation, pallidness of the penis, any numbness or aching within that region, the cock ring should be removed from the area immediately. Furthermore, it should be noted that males who have a history of cardiovascular dysfunction, including but by no means restricted to:

  • Diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2
  • Myocardiac Infarction
  • Sickle cell disease

should not attempt to use a cock ring at all, as the risk of permanent injury to the area is far too high. In short, the above conditions serve as absolute contraindications.

Special mention must be made to the potential side effects and health risks associated with the usage of a cock ring. One of the most worrisome consequences that can arise is the risk of penile gangrene, whereby the penile tissue undergoes necrosis from within. In such cases, penile gangrene almost invariably necessitates an amputation of the afflicted area in order to prevent the spread of secondary infection to the remainder of the body.

Perhaps this article has been a little heavy handed upon the negative side effects and consequences that can and will arise if a cock ring is not carefully utilized. However, by strictly adhering to the safety instructions and guidance provided, a cock ring can be a highly pleasurable, erotic and sensual means of ensuring that a couple is able to achieve a mutually satisfactory sex life.
